IrisTV and Stonewall Cymru Course

The Festivals Company delivered a training course on behalf of Stonewall Cymru which gave 8 young people from Wales a practical insight into the interviewing process with an emphasis on research and preparation. The successful applicants worked with the Festivals Company to develop content for IrisTV during the 2011 Iris Prize Festival.

Similar to Pierhead Sessions TV, The Festivals Company advertised the training course and carried out interviews with the shortlisted candidates before selecting the successful applicants.

The company once again worked with experienced journalist Andrew Gurney and filmmaker Michael Barnes to give the students an opportunity of producing moving image content from an editorial viewpoint with key stages involving Pre-Production, Filming, and Post Production.

Overall the students produced 10 filmed pieces between 3 – 5 minutes long consisting of interviews with guests of the festival. A compilation of the footage created by the students was shown as part of the Iris Prize Awards Show on the closing night of the festival. All of the interviews are now available on YouTube and on the Iris Prize website.
