S4C supports Ffresh films
27 Oct 2011Ffresh, produced by the Festivals Company, is working together with S4C to find 5 young filmmakers to create short films that reflect contemporary Wales including its people, communities, areas, or events. The short films can be documentaries, music videos, or visual poems and must be exactly 3 minutes in length. All the short films must be delivered through the Welsh language.
The 5 short films will premiere at Ffresh 2012, which takes place at the Newport Film School from February 8th – 10th and will subsequently screen on S4C as well as being made available on a dedicated website. The five selected entrants will be offered guidance from Ffresh throughout the production process and be given a £400 cash prize.
Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C Director of Communications, said, "I’m delighted that S4C can foster new film talent by working with Ffresh on this innovative scheme. This competition fits perfectly into our Calon Cenedl campaign which emphasises the role S4C, as a broadcaster, plays, not only on screen, but also at the heart of all that’s happening in our communities throughout Wales."
To enter the competition you must be a resident of Wales aged between 16 to 24 and have access to a HD moving image camera and editing equipment. You will need to submit a one page treatment outlining your idea to Ffresh Festival Director James Nee at james@ffresh.com and include any examples of moving image or still photography work – please note: participants with little or no moving image experience are unlikely to be selected. The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 18th.
The five chosen entrants will be notified by Friday, November 25th. The next stage will involve the selected filmmakers working with Ffresh to deliver the short films to industry broadcast standards. The delivery dates for the completed short films is Friday, February 3rd.
