Westminster Election Short Film
16 - 29 Apr 2010The Festivals Company has created a short film for Plaid Cymru’s Westminster Election Campaign. The 2’40" film was written, directed and produced by the Festivals Company following consultation with the client and has been broadcast on BBC Wales, ITV Wales, S4C, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
"Following on from the successful promo we created for Plaid’s autumn conference, we wanted to do something completely different for the Westminster election" said Berwyn Rowlands from the Festivals Company. "From early on we knew that the client wanted to focus on the prospect of a hung parliament and what this would mean for Wales. We therefore devised a simple scenario of two old journalist friends meeting to discuss the impact of a hung parliament on Wales. The difficult part was making the encounter seem as natural as possible and creating characters that the viewer would instantly warm to".
"By casting two actors who’ve appeared regularly on Welsh television we aimed to create an instant sense of recognition between the audience and characters and from the feedback we’ve received, it appears this tactic has worked" said James Nee. "We shot in high definition using the Canon 5D Mark 2, which helped to make what is essentially a two- hander more visually interesting. However, the most important thing was to communicate the central message, and I think the simplicity of the film helped to achieve this."
"We were very happy with the way the broadcast effectively communicated one of the key messages of our Westminster campaign: the impact of a hung parliament to the people of Wales" said Plaid Chief Executive, Gwenllian Lansdown. "The Festivals Company have once again created a broadcast that is both visually interesting and intellectually stimulating" added Gwenllian.
