Election Broadcasts and Promos
1 Apr - 4 Jun 2009The Festivals Company created two Party Election Broadcasts, and a series of online promos, for Plaid Cymru’s European election campaign. The films and promos were developed, written, directed and produced by the company following discussions with the client who wanted the broadcasts to represent their campaign slogan: On your Side.
"With the European election broadcasts we decided early on that we wanted to focus on "real people", meaning the electorate: their lives, their hopes, their fears" said Festivals Company Managing Director Berwyn Rowlands. "The client agreed and trusted us to capture a snap shot of people’s lives, which would reflect the current mood of the nation."
"It was a risk as the two broadcasts aren’t traditional party broadcasts, i.e. a politician talking camera, but we felt that this style of PPB was a little outmoded" added Project Manager James Nee. "Similar to the trilogy of broadcasts we created for the national elections, we wanted to create something unconventional that would have a more emotional resonance with the audience, and by the public’s response I think we’ve been very successful in achieving this."
"After the broadcasts went out, numerous people thought we had used actors, which we take as a complement, but it isn’t true. The people are real, their stories are real. It was or job to capture them honestly, and to show Plaid Cymru’s engagement with the people of Wales" said Berwyn.
