Food Festival Returns!
2 Mar 2009Cardiff’s Indian Food Festival, produced by the Festivals Company returns for its 3rd year in March 2009 with a unique programme of fun events for both adults and families, including free Indian Cuisine Masterclasses, the launch of Pimp my Naan, the return of the Cardiff Curry, and a special charity gala dinner for Help a South Wales Child.
To celebrate the return of the food festival the three partner restaurants, Spice Merchant, Spice Route, and Kemi’s Café, have worked together to devise a brand new Cardiff Curry for 2009. The inaugural 2008 Cardiff Curry was a popular vegetarian combination, but our spies suggest that locally sourced, organic, free range chicken could be the winning ingredient in 2009! The results of this unique collaboration will be unveiled at Kemis Café at Craft in the Bay on Tuesday 3 March 2009 at 4.00pm and will subsequently be available not only at the Spice Merchant, Spice Route, and Kemi’s Café, but also at the XL Fishbar on Crwys Road as the food festival hits the streets of Cardiff!
This year’s festival also sees the return of the popular Fill the Pot competition where three aspiring local curry lovers will create, cook and serve a curry at the Spice Route during the Festival. The winning dish, as decided by Spice Route patrons, will be included as part of the official menu for the Festival’s Help a South Wales Child’s Gala Dinner. The Spice Merchant in Cardiff Bay will also once again be hosting its popular series of Free Cooking Masterclasses, which will incorporate ingredients from the True Taste Wales Food & Drink Awards and will be held on every Sunday of the month.
New additions to this year’s festival includes Ready Steady Curry, where two teams with go up against one another to create the most unusual curry; the Shake My Wok Challenge where aspiring chefs will cook and perform at the famous Spice Route wok station; and the launch of Pimp My Naan, where three creative bread lovers will witness their naan PIMPED to create the ultimate Naan and win an iPod nano and a VIP day out at the Red Dragon Centre. You will also be able to download a new Indian recipe every week from the festival website www.cardiffsindianfoodfest.co.uk, which use ingredients from winners of the True Taste Wales Food & Drink Awards.
Following on from one of the undisputed highlights of 2008, the festival has teamed up with Red Dragon FM and Help a South Wales Child once again for the 2009 Help a South Wales Child Gala Dinner. The menu for the evening will be provided by the festival restaurants as they bring together their collective expertise to lavish you with the finest Indian cuisine available in the Capital. Be part of something unique and fun with Red Dragon’s Leigh Jones and raise money for Help a South Wales Child, the Festival’s official Charity.
