Shoot Wales Competition

Shoot Wales Competition

2 Feb - 1 May 2009

The Festivals Company was invited by Visit Wales to coordinate an exciting new competition called Shoot Wales.

Visit Wales was looking for the next series of short films to attract UK holiday-makers to Wales in 2009. The current series of films can be seen on their website at www.visitwales.co.uk.

The entries were judged by an experienced panel from the film, music and tourism sectors and included Justin Kerrigan (Director, Human Traffic, I Know you Know), Rhys from the Goldie Lookin Chain, and Hannah James from Visit Wales. During a judging day at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff the panel chose Ice Cream by Rhiannon Tate from the International Film School Wales as the winner.

Shoot Wales Jury"The film maker has uncovered a real human interest story that brings to life the joy of Wales for both visitor and those that live here. The film covered many elements of what makes a holiday in Wales special without seeming contrived" said Hannah James.

"It was an endearing film about a man who fell in love with Wales and moved to Pembrokeshire to start a family. A heartfelt and intelligent film" added fellow juror Justin Kerrigan, Filmmaker

Rhiannon Tate was awarded the following for taking home first prize:

  • a £2000 career development fund

  • one week’s work experience at top advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy (one of the biggest advertising agencies in the world who came up with the slogan Just do it for Nike!), plus £500 travel and subsistence bursary

  • her film to be hosted on www.visitwales.co.uk

There were also three Runner-ups who each won a £500 career development fund and will have their films hosted on www.visitwales.co.uk

The winning films will be posted on the Visit Wales website shortly.
