James Nee
James is a graduate of Aberystwyth and Warwick University, and developed his programming and event production experience at Sgrîn and more recently with The Festivals Company. For the past three years he’s coordinated Ffresh – the Student Moving Image Festival of Wales – which has developed into the largest student moving image event in the UK. More recently he’s written a number of party election broadcasts, assisted on such successful Festivals Company projects as the Iris Prize and Cardiff’s Indian Food Festival, and directed and produced a series of 14 short films for the British Council. He completed his first short film Y Fargen in 2005. His experience includes:

Responsibilities:
Producer, Ffresh – the Student Moving Image Festival of Wales 2006
Duties including organising and administering the annual Ffresh Awards, organising advisory committee meetings, programming festival content, contacting speakers, liaising with festival partners and sponsors, attracting and securing sponsorship, writing copy for festival promotional material, organising fringe events and receptions.
Festival Co-ordinator for the Celtic Film and Television Festival
Duties included contacting speakers, organising transport and accommodation for the festival guests and delegates, working with the festival’s technical team, writing copy for festival promotional material, co-ordinating and organising sessions.
Programmer for the Cardiff Screen Festival
This involved attending numerous films festivals including Cannes, Edinburgh and Karlovy Vary in order to programme and secure content (including films and speakers) for the Cardiff Screen Festival. James was also involved in the organising and staging of the event from 2003 - 2005.
Print Co-ordinator for Cardiff Screen Festival
Between 2003 – 2005 he was responsible for all print and tape movements both domestically and internationally for the festival, involving working with various UK couriers and UK Customs authorities.
Programmer for Wales Cinema Day
As part of the 2004 event James organised the Welsh premiere of I’ll Sleep when I’m Dead including a Q&A with the film’s director Mike Hodges, a screening of The Lodger with live musical accompaniment and numerous preview and archive screenings throughout Wales.
Assistant to the Cultural Department
His main duties included co-ordinating the Sgrîn Shorts Tour; including booking films from Sgrîn’s short film catalogue into cinemas and venues throughout Wales, liaising with cinema proprietors and managers and overseeing the transport of the film prints to and from the venues. As part of the shorts tour, James also oversaw the programming and screening of the interactive short film Textual Attraction.
